Edit: Oops; I guess it's "Pintrest" and not PinIt.

Can anyone help me understand exactly what these sites are for or what you're supposed to do with/on them? I see a lot of friends on LINKEDIN especially an I'm confused as to how I'm supposed to use it or utilize it's services. PINIT keeps coming up in a lot of art theft cases recently and it just has me confused as to its purpose, really. I see a lot of peoples "collections" of images and some are even "pined" right from DA galleries which does an auto link back to the original. I don't really see any ways for those collections to be resold or anything but maybe I'm missing the point of it?

If any of you use these sites could you help me understand how they work?

As others have already said, LinkedIn is a more professional site for business purposes. I think of it literally as a "professional" facebook. It helps you network and things and make professional contacts. I haven't yet made one, I probably should someday.

Pinterest to me is kinda like "bookmarking" pages that you can then share with other people. Everything you "pin" has a source, so if people say, pin a piece of art from my DA page, when someone clicks on it they'll be taken back to my DA page. Now if the art is sourced somewhere other than it's original place of origin, yeah I'm sure that could be a problem. My friend at work the other day told me she saw some of my art on pinterest, and I was like WHAT OMG. And then she showed me, and it was just someone who had pinned a couple of my prints from my Society6 page. When you click them it takes you right to my page. So I was like whew.... And then I thought it was pretty cool someone had pinned my art! :D  So in essence, if the source is correct, someone "pinning" art on Pinterest isn't art theft. They're just bookmarking it, essentially. ^^
